I have original disks for the c64, but I am not able to getting a fully working image. tried mnib with a modded 1571 drive and it wont get past protection. It could be the fact I am using a 1571. anyone have a modded 1541 that can try to get a clean burn?

Greetings.
Someone has already dumped Alternate reality the city.
If you have any other disks that need dumping, I'd like to help. Where are you located?
Yes, using anything other than a modified 1541 to dump disks will often get you mixed results with some protection schemes.

cool. I originally obtained my master discs to get a working, uncracked, copy of AR the city for the c64. Every cracked version, on the net, didn't work. I did dump my copies with a modded 1571, so that may be reason they are still flawed. If I provide proof of ownership, may I get a good image dump of the city discs? Thanks

Hi. don't worry about providing proof of ownership, I'll give you the dumps.
what is your email? or how else would you like me to send them to you?
Thanks.

Wait wait! Lord Slappy, let's try harder to get your version imaged, because *there are different code variants of AR: The City out there* and only one of these variants has a working version in C64PP.

The City is super-finicky in a lot of different ways. I myself just imaged a new set of disks twice and only got one working version. Can you share your output .nib files?

Also, can you provide a screen cap (digital photo is fine) of your original working on the main gameplay Floating Gate screen? Something like the attached. (The charset gives a hint about which code version of The City is running!)

How far do you get when you load your nonworking version?

It rattles the drive for a while and then resets to BASIC. Doesn't make it to the plaintext credits screen. Pete says he got both nibs to correct properly, so maybe it's in the nib->g64 conversion step that things fell down.

But my broader point about really, really wanting to find a good working image with the elusive WORK ALLOCATION screen stands.

This game uses weak bits on track 1.

It works best if you use nibwrite -f5. Otherwise the weak bit area may not be complete and the game will later have problems or crash. It's a time bomb protection.
