Thanks for your feedback. Long term, I might go with the XUM1541 cable as long as I can purchase one that is assembled and tested. That is a bit too difficult of an electronics project for me to do on my own.

Meanwhile, my current setup will suffice to continue to scan in the last of my floppies and as a transfer medium for my very few cartridges and cassettes.

I've been helping Jim Brain prepare for production of the ZoomFloppy. He's said it will be available by the end of 2010. So hopefully we can end all this LPT nonsense soon. :)

I know exactly what you mean. It was a long hard slog for my computer dealer and builder to get a motherboard with a printer port that worked without requiring any windows or Linux drivers.
for reasons I'd rather not go into, I also require a working serial port as well.
