Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, my 1541 drive suddenly decided to give up the ghost about an hour ago, the latch just suddenly came loose and now it's like a useless toy. Hopefully my computer guy might be able to work another miracle by fixing it. If he can't, well.. Let's cross that bridge when we get to it.
It's a bit of a shame because I was just on the verge of getting Acro jet working too. Previously I wasn't able to get it to load past track 21, but changing the skew to 1 fixed it, and I was able to load it further and make it to track 29.

That should be simple to fix. The latch is held with a pin. Probably the pin just fell out. If not, then it's possible the plastic around the pin failed. That could probably be fixed with epoxy.

G'day g'day.
Thank the sky above you were right, it was only the latch and not the motor or the drive head, all fixed now, much to Mr. Chen's surprise. Surprise at the fact that the latch was the only thing that was broken. Ah for the good ole days when most electronic gadgets were built to last. The 1541 was bought in 1990 or 1991 according to the recollection of Arthur, it's previous owner.
I discovered in January 1989 that my friend Simon had a c128d, but I'm not sure exactly when he bought it, either way, it's still going strong in 2010

Yes, a copy of AcroJet arrived from the UK last week, it's all good now.
Why? do you want me to send you a copy?
Cheers.
