Hello friends,

Due to various problems reported with newer versions of nibtools, I've rolled back all the code to the last (hopefully) known stable version - 0.7.6. I've merged a few of the known good changes done since then (fillbyte support) but removed all the newer changes/tweaks to track cycle detection and density detection that caused so many issues.

This needs to be stabilized mainly for Nate to work on the ZoomFloppy, and for those kind members who are imaging disks again after a long break.

Anyone using a newer version than 0.7.6, please delete the executables and download the version on the site. Any images you have created are probably good, but conversions to G/D64 from those images could be faulty.

As always, thanks to everyone who is testing and reporting bugs. I've found it's an exercise in futility to tweak the code to support a new foreign image without breaking support for some of the 1000's before it. :(

Hi there.
I found the problem was mainly with the reading rather than the writing of images. what if you were to keep all the changes up to 0.8.7 in nibwrite, but rollback nibread to work like 0.7.6?

Peter I did try and send you a couple of emails through your website earlier today but I'm not sure if they got through.
Please dont wipe version 0.8.7 of nibtools. You had the writing part of it pretty much error-free actually.
Thanks.

There will be test versions available that still have the other changes. It's just not stable enough for general use.

So... of the three different archives up now, which do you want us to use for continued imaging?

Hi Jason,

Stable is the one to use, but if you still have any problems, please report. The "test" version will incorporate changes that may not be stable, and are mostly tweaks for writing back certain images.

It looks like the "give-up" to NDOS is happening, if anything, even *faster* in the Aug 2 Stable build than it did back before you changed it in late 0.8.x. I'll have a disk in the next batch I send which shows this.

That could be good or bad, depending on the track. :)

Heh. It's T1 of Castle Wolfenstein... shouldn't I be seeing E11s rather than NDOS?

NDOS just means all sectors on that track report errors. In the case of the V4 versions of CW, that is normal. :)

I apologize if this is common knowledge, but I can't find it in the searches I am making. Do the nibtools work with ZoomFloppy as of yet? I tried to run the latest just quickly and it failed the init test after successfully running the bump.

Sure, but you still must have a drive modded for parallel access.

Ah, I got you. I have plenty of disks to go through before I even have to worry about that just yet! Thanks.
