I have two 1571 formatted copy protected disks, Sketch Pad 128 from Free Spirit Software and CADPAK 128 Mouse Version from Abacus. I don't care much about CADPAK 128 because I also have an original non copy protected version. I believe that Abacus sent it when I mailed in the registration card, probably for a small fee.
For Sketch Pad, if I image each side separately, and the bit order for side two is reversed, is it possible to convert it into a g64 format image that might work in WinVICE? I believe that the copy protection may be on side two because there is a bad sector on track 55. D71 images between the original and the backup copy that I had made back in the day are identical. |

I'll have to write some custom routines to do this... Not only do I have to reverse the bit order, but also re-frame all the data to the reversed sync marks. |

The other issue is that there is apparently no double-sided GCR image format- I can't find where there is any standard for a "G71" type image.
Therefore, there would be no way to emulators to handle it unless we added it... Ugh. |

I remember looking at the g64 file format a while back. It seems to be pretty generic. Could offset $0009 be set to $8C (140 in decimal) to simulate a 1571 format disk? |

It's not a problem to make/modify a new file format, it's just that the emulators won't know what to do with it. :)

The VICE guys seem pretty active these days--I imagine if you provide them with a spec and a real thing they'll adopt it readily enough. |
