Hi, recently volunteers to OpenCBM did some testing with the linux part of the project. We found out that any PCI LPT card we had for testing does not implement the hardware IRQ function correctly. There might be workarounds, but this would introduce just another more sophisticated X-cable standard, not to speak from software modification to support this mess. We're still in the hope that with more modern updated and new PCI/PCIe LPT chipsets, hardware developers will learn how to successfully adopt edge triggered ISA bus hardware IRQs to level triggered PCI bus hardware IRQs. Maybe this requires a per-board interrupt controller or something like this. At least under Linux we see the small chance that such cards will be supported by updated drivers. But, currently we don't see such cards and it's more likely that the xum1541 goes into mass production and replaces all the older LPT port based cables. Womo |
