Subject: Legend of Blacksilver - good dump?
Hello, to all! Maybe somebody knows this?
I wonder is the Legend of Blacksilver dump in the GB64 Extras/Disks section actually a good dump or is it broken? I couldn't get the (supposedly "patched") included .g64 files to work on VICE (neither on the newest SVN version nor on the last released version 2.2). I tried disabling virtual device traps, disabling drive idle detection, manually attaching the disk image and typing the LOAD command by hand - nothing works.
Nor could I use nibconv to convert the .nib files that also exist in that archive to a working .g64 image, trying all sorts of combinations of options, including the -pv option that should supposedly be tailor-made for this "Newer Vorpal" protected disk. Nor of course could I re-master it, since I didn't build the slow-down pot I asked about yesterday into my drive yet.
Given the the game always gets stuck on Track 19 right after any attempt to start it (NOT on the special Vorpal tracks), I'm starting to suspect the dump isn't actually any good. Did anybody manage to run the game from these image files?
Since the dump seems to be from no later than 2005 according to the file dates, maybe a re-dump with current nibread could help? Or am I on a wrong track here?
Thanks in advance for any takers.

Subject: Infocom
I have looked at the database to compare what is in there for Infocom titles compared to what I have of C64/C128 originals. While all of the C64 games in the database list version numbers, none of the C128 only games do. I do know that for at least some of the C128 games, multiple versions were released. In my collection, I have originals for Beyond Zork v47, Bureaucracy v116 and an old copy of Trinity v11. On the web, I have found AMFV v77, Bureaucracy v86 and Trinity v12.
The database entry for the Infocom Sampler also does not list the version number. Several versions of this may also have been released for the C64. In my collection, I have an original for v24.
For the C64 games, I have Infocom originals for Ballyhoo v97, Enchanter v16, Hitchhiker v56, Infidel v22, LGoP v59 and Spellbreaker v63. I have original Commodore labeled versions for Deadline v26, Starcross v17, Suspended v7 and Zork III v15. I don’t know if there is any difference between the same version of the games when sold under the Infocom vs. Commodore labels. I know that all of the Commodore versions had the blue interpreter.
Since none of the titles in canonical Infocom games are copy protected, my preference for my own preservation purposes is D64 files. Pretty much everything that can be done has already been done for the Infocom titles somewhere out there on the web. I don’t plan to rescan these as NIBs unless requested for specific titles.
If there are specific titles, in particular the ones that say verified sets: 0, that you would like either my D64 files or scanned as NIBs, please let me know.
For my one collection, I am looking for originals for LGoP v4, Sherlock v21, Stationfall v107, Wishbringer v23 and Zork I v52. In addition to the C64 versions listed, I have original copies of Lost Treasures 1 Amiga and Lost Treasures 2 PC CD. I have working copies of the game files for all of these versions. What I am interested in is the original C64/C128 interpreters. If anyone knows where these can be found, please let me know.

Subject: Paul Whitehead Teaches Chess
Here are the NIB files for the original, complete, working, English version of "Paul Whitehead Teaches Chess" by Enlightment, inc. The data sectors compare exactly against my backup copies. All disks contain copy protection. The g64s have been tested in WinVICE and CCS64.
The g64s have already benn submitted to GB64. The readme is the one included in the GB64 submission. The PDF documentation is not included in this submission.

Subject: Known Missing
I would love to know if there is a list of known missing games or programs, because I know someone who has like 700 or so in drawers, most copied from the library, but many are still in box, I would love to have a list, instead of searching EACH game!
Thanks a bunch!

Subject: Copied Disks?
Hi, I have a metric ton of disks, but often these are copies from an uncle of mine. Are these copies useful at all, or do you want only the original disks?

Subject: I found...
...an original Zork III (release 15: 830331) and a supposedly-nibbled copy of Zork II (release 23: 830411). More of my long-hidden C64 collection should be coming soon from storage.
Are these two particularly useful, and what sort of cable would I need to hook my new 1571 drive to my PC to transfer the data? I plan to use an older Windows 98 machine with parallel/serial ports unless some better transfer method works with Windows 7.

Subject: My C64 DB's - Anything Rare or Noteworth
Hey guys. Usually its uncouth to not even bother to lurk before busting out a thread right after signing up, but I thought I'd just throw my list of disks out there to start and get an idea if there's anything I have that should be priority in my contributions. Great project you have here. Text file of disks attached. Hit me back in email if anything sparkles and gets special attention, i.e. is not yet represented in a good image. Thanks!

Subject: 1581 images
Hi,
I finally got a 1581 drive, repaired it, and now I'm looking for an image of the tools/demo disk.
I'm not sure how many things were even released for the 1581, but the tools/demo disk would be a good start !

Subject: Alternate Reality: The Dungeon
Hi, I was wondering if you can tell me if a "good" copy of Alternate Reality: The Dungeon exists? I have several copies with slight variations but none of them allow you to create a character disk.
If you load the game and goto the Utilities Menu to create a new character disk it just hangs and does nothing after you insert a new blank disk. I tried d64 and g41 disks but nothing seems to work.
I was wondering two things is the game legal to distribute and if so is it possible to get a copy? I found this text in an Alternate Reality FAQ written by Robert Hagenström. "Philip Price, the copyright holder of the Alternate Reality series has granted free distribution of all versions of the original two AR games." If that's not possible is there any way to get at least a blank character disk?
The game is playable in many emulators but you can't save the game due to a lack of a character disk and/or the ability to create one. I have looked on all the websites I could find and posted on several forums but no one has a working copy of a character disk for the Commodore 64, not even on the dedicated Alternate Reality sites.
I would love to be able to play the game and save it. The UCF version is playable from beginning to end but only in emulators with freeze states. The problem is the emulator (CCS64) changes freeze states as it updates the program to make the emulation more accurate so every few updates it's no longer compatible and you have to start the game from the beginning if you want to use the current version of the emulators.
I didn't see anything that said I couldn't post this type of question but if it violates forums discussion rules I am sorry. I was hoping you might have a copy since I seen you had one verified copy in your database. Thank you for any help and have a great evening.
Chad.

Subject: GMA protected images
hi
just noticed that there`s something wrong with these images. the g64s(hotrod and afew others using GMA) report speed 0 tracks(36+) with a length of 7928. even if a real drive can read data that is more closely spaced together this is WAY too much for a density 0 track. reading it with a 300RPM drive you will get garbage but I figure the original disks must have worked on regular drives:) these images should be fixed to reflect more realistic track sizes, otherwise they will fail when the hack to adjust motor speed to read them is removed from Vice.

Hmm.. There is an earlier release of "Little Computer People" that has a title screen that says "House on a Disk" instead.

Subject: Label Variation
I don't normally scan labels and boxes, except for the more rare ones, but I noticed this variation in a recent imaging session.
Apparently, Microprose moved down the road at some point. :)

Nice scam you got going, Pete.. rather than going out and searching for files, have people send YOU files, under the guise of "preservation". lol
ANyone who sends this guy anything is contributing to his own personal collection - thats all.
Lame.

Subject: Offline Database
Hey Pete, could you make a offline .ZIP file
of the disk database ? for download and
offline viewing, would also save BW on your site.
use to be you could just hit the search and it would show all entries, but that doesnt work anymore. TIA
